UP Voter List Row: Strange Entries Raise Questions Over Election Commission
Strange Entries in Uttar Pradesh Voter List Raise Questions Over Election Commission; Allegations of Lapses in Administration
Opposition Attacks Over Alleged Irregularities in the SIR Process; Demands Answers from BJP

Uttar Pradesh: Ahead of the election to the Allahabad–Jhansi Graduate Constituency in Uttar Pradesh, alleged unusual entries in the voter list have raised questions about the functioning of the Election Commission. Reported discrepancies in voters’ names and their fathers’ names have triggered serious concerns over the accuracy of the voter registration process.
According to claims that have surfaced, some entries in the voter list are said to be extremely unusual. The following examples have been cited:
– Voter’s name: Ram Ne Yadav Ko Mara; Father’s name: Moorkh Chandra Yadav.
– In one case, BCom was allegedly entered in the column meant for the voter’s father’s name.
– Voter’s name: Afzal Ahmed; Father’s name: Mohammad Iqbal Bheek Mangte Hai.
– Voter’s name: Takkar Marna; Father’s name: Takkar Marna.
These alleged entries have raised questions about how information is verified during the preparation of voter lists. Official verification of these records is necessary, and if the entries are found to be genuine, the concerned authorities should provide an explanation.
Criticism of the Election Commission Over the SIR Process
The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls has previously faced criticism, with questions reportedly raised over alleged irregularities and the functioning of the Election Commission. Critics argue that the alleged discrepancies in Uttar Pradesh have further strengthened the objections raised during press conferences on the issue.
The controversy has also led to criticism of the working style of then Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Demands are also being raised for the BJP, which has defended the Election Commission’s position, to explain the alleged discrepancies.
Need to Correct Errors in Voter Lists
Voter lists are a crucial foundation of the democratic process. Therefore, voters’ names, their fathers’ names and other details must be accurate. If such entries are officially verified, an investigation should be conducted and the necessary corrections should be made.
Meanwhile, the complete picture will emerge only after the entries are officially verified and the concerned election authorities clarify their position on the matter.
